NYCOM, GIZ Malawi equip rural youth entrepreneurs
As the implementation of the GIZ Malawi-funded Empowering Youth in Agriculture (EYA) project, National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) is currently executing a third training block aimed at empowering young individuals in the districts of Mzimba, Mchinji and Ntchisi in Malawi.
Targeting selected youth clubs in selected traditional authorities in the districts, the training is designed to address specific needs identified within and by the youth clubs. One group benefiting from this initiative is Kambuwe Youth Club of Mchinji with the aspiration of becoming a company. Kambuwe is receiving trainings that aim to enhance the quality of their honey products and elevate their brand image.
To facilitate these improvements, the NYCOM has engaged the expertise of a young female facilitator who not only possesses a wealth of knowledge in business but also runs her own successful honey production enterprise.
Speaking on Monday, 20 May, 2024 in Mchinji, Esther Manduwa of Chilengedwe Food Products eloquently outlined the pivotal role of youth in shaping Malawi’s future.
Drawing from her own entrepreneurial journey, Manduwa, who spoke with passion, emphasized the transformative impact of equipping young individuals with knowledge and skills in agribusiness.
Her remarks resonated as a compelling call to action, inspiring collective efforts to nurture a new generation of agri-preneurs poised to drive sustainable socio-economic change in the country.
In Ntchisi district, Mwansangu Youth Organisation is undergoing a proposal development training which is building on a previous block 3 training that was delivered to them in the earlier in the year.
“Looking at how the world is changing and the need for essential skills is fundamental for one to succeed, we choose proposal development because our vision is to attract both local and international investors in our agribusiness,” Said Lukiya, a member of the organisation.
Apart from proposal training development, Mwansangu members will also learn how to use the internet to access opportunities that are posted for young people. This is an important element in enhancing their chances of finding potential investors in their enterprise.
The trainings run from the 20 to 22 May 2024 and are poised to equip the participating youth groups with valuable insights, skills, and strategies to enhance their respective enterprises and strengthen their brand presence in the market. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of both the National Youth Council and the GIZ EYA project to foster entrepreneurship and innovation among the youth in Malawi.
